Every weekend, BACKPACKER Forum users fan out across the great outdoors, like a mighty army clad in waterproof-breathable fabric and 4,000-cubic-inch packs. While canvassing the country’s trails, our intrepid users encounter all manner of fascinating and dangerous creatures, which they then share upon their (hopefully) safe return to society.

Eastern and Western diamondback rattlers, copperheads, king snakes, and garter snakes all make appearances, as do harrowing tales of near-bites. You can even see a king snake making a meal of a rattler in a photo by Forum member jdp (pictured).
