A helmet is a helmet is a helmet, right? From the outside, maybe. But take a look under the hood of this updated classic, and you’ll find a bevy of smart features.

“The size wheel is the easiest I’ve used,” says one tester after climbing the Grand Teton’s North Ridge. “I adjusted fit with one gloved hand when I added or removed my hat as temperatures swayed.” Larger vents also enable airflow to prevent baking in afternoon sun, while polyester-lined padding absorbed and wicked forehead sweat (unlined padding on other models caused sweat to drip into sunglasses).

Also smart: Barbs on the headlamp clips keep your light from slipping.
