Backpacking Recipe: Maple Sweet Grits

2 cups water

1/2 cup instant powdered milk

dash salt

1/2 cup quick grits

1/2 cup maple syrup

4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

In camp

Bring water to boil in a medium pan. Stir in powdered milk, salt, grits, and maple syrup. Reduce heat; continue stirring for about 5 minutes until mixture has thickened to the consistency of oatmeal. Pour into serving bowls and top with bacon. Serves two as a main dish, four as a side.


Use precooked bacon.
