Denver recently announced it had landed the contract to host the lucrative Outdoor Retailer trade show, in large part because of Colorado’s commitment to public lands conservation. But that same week, Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke ordered the Bureau of Land Management to quicken its review of oil and gas drilling permits, raising concerns that a shift in favor of extractive industries will hurt Colorado’s $28 billion outdoor industry.
