Berklee Prof Creates Sound Map of White Mountains

Steve Wilkes, the White Mountain National Forest Artist in Residence, is creating a 1,200-square-mile online audio map.

Berklee College of Music professor Steve Wilkes is traversing the length and width of the White Mountains, recording everything he hears: bird calls, waterfalls, chatting hikers, and even the roar of cars driving through the Albany Covered Bridge. His hope? To create 60-some recordings of the life of the forest, then upload them for public listening. To listen, go here.
