Just in time for Mother’s Day: sunny Seattle skiesdannymac15_1999

Hey Washingtonians!

We couldn’t ask for a better forecast than what we have for this Mother’s Day Weekend: mid-70s on Saturday for much of the area and low 80s Sunday. There is still a lot of snow in the mountains and on the higher-elevation trails in the Cascades, so bring your microspikes and an ice axe for steeper routes, especially if you are going above around 4,000 feet or so.

My recommendation for taking mom out on a hike if she isn’t into anything too big is Cherry Creek Falls outside of Duvall, about a 45-minute drive from Seattle. The trail is 4.9 miles round-trip, has a gain of just 623 feet, and ends at a really cool waterfall. I have been up here a couple of times with friends and family, and everyone had a blast.

If mom is into hiking and you are looking for something more challenging, my recommendation is heading over to Dirty Harry’s Peak, about 45 minutes east of Seattle just off I-90. The trail is 8.2 miles round-trip and offers 3,300 feet of elevation gain. On a beautiful clear day the views from the top at 4,662 feet will be absolutely incredible. Trekking poles and microspikes should get you to the top, but having an ice axe can’t hurt either.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend and can make it out into the mountains. Take your mom if possible!
