The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife believes that a group of eight people have poached dozens of animals in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Around 80 of the counts were for unlawful hunting of big game—nearly as many cases as the agency typically pursues in a year. Over nine months, investigators cobbled together text messages, videos, and Facebook posts to track down the killers.
