Haleakala National Park

Haleakala National Park is Maui, Hawaii’s premier park. It is dominated by a massive shield volcano responsible for 75% of the entire island’s landmass. Hiking in Haleakala National Park will expose you to the rugged, almost otherworldly terrain left by hardened lava, and venturing into the Haleakala Crater itself will give you an experience you won’t quickly forget. Trails in Haleakala National Park are maintained by the National Park Service, though more than half of the park is designated wilderness. One of the best hikes in Haleakala National Park – and on the entire island – is the 3-mile-long Pipiwai trail. On this dayhike you will walk among the towering bamboo forests and streaming waterfalls that call this paradise home.

Haleakala National Park: Halemau’u Trail
