Hiker Survives 40-Foot Fall in the Smokies

The woman fell from the Laurel Falls Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

A 63-year-old woman fell 40 feet from the Laurel Falls Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park earlier this week. Rescuers carried her off the trail, and she was taken to a hospital. A park spokeswoman said increased crowding on the trail has contributed to more slips and falls.
