The Spruce Railroad Trail, part of Olympic National Park’s Lake Crescent area, will reopen on Sunday after crews widened and reinforced the McFee Tunnel segment. The trail was built during World War I to help move Sitka spruce to build warplanes. Today, it’s part of a non-motorized trail expansion set to finish in 2018 as well as the in-progress Olympic Discovery Trail, a 134-mile route that will connect La Push and Port Townsend.
