Winter wildflowers abound in Marin County in January, where nature lovers can spy blooming footsteps-of-spring, shooting stars, and houndstongue. More seasonal highlights: overwintering butterflies, such as the mourning cloak and the California tortoiseshell, and Anna’s hummingbirds. See them at Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Elliott Nature Preserve, and Point Reyes, to name a few.
