Rockfall Kills Hiker on Mt. Rainier's Eagle Peak

The 75-year-old Olympia man left his group to hike cross-country.

After summitting Eagle Peak in the Tatoosh Range in Mt. Rainier National Park last week, 75-year-old Burt Meyer left his group and the trail (possibly to bag neighboring Chutla Peak). But soon after, his friends heard rockfall on the mountain; rescuers later found Meyer among the fallen rocks and pronounced him dead at the scene.
