California just got its latest redwood sanctuary: a 730-acre plot of old-growth redwoods on the Sonoma Coast, set to open to hikers in about three years. The environmental group Save the Redwoods League bought the land from a private owner for $18.1 million. The new park is larger than Muir Woods and features a tree as tall as 322 feet.
