The number of people being bitten by rattlesnakes in California is rising, with about 20 people calling the California Poison Control System to report bites just since April 1 of this year (it’s likely the number is even higher, as not every bite is reported to the hotline). Some experts attribute the jump to more rattlesnake yearlings on trails after last year’s rain. Though chances of a rattlesnake bite remain very low, experts urge Californians to be careful out there.
