According to this story on CBS News, some 70 percent of illegal grow sites—many operated by Mexican drug cartels on California’s public lands—are using toxic pesticides like carbofuran. “Bears that were photographed walking into camps contaminated with carbofuran were subsequently found dead,” the story says.
