A group of trailblazing hikers set off this week to be the first to thru-hike a 170-mile route around Chicago dubbed the Outerbelt. It’s the brainchild of local Jay Readey, who’s out to prove that even Chicagoans can find a wild, long-distance escape through the area’s meadows, forests, and beaches.
