Mt. Hood’s iconic Timberline Trail, a 40-mile circuit around the volcano, reopens this summer with a brand-new segment bridging an old gap at Cloud Cap. A 2006 flood damaged that section of trail so badly, the Forest Service banned hikers. The restored trail detours slightly around the most dangerous part of the Cloud Cap area, though hikers must still cross the unbridged Eliot Branch.
