New Bike Laws Kick in for 2018
Several safety measures are now the law, and cycling becomes the official state exercise of Illinois.

The new year brought several small but welcome legal changes for Illinois cyclists. For one, three safety measures–drivers may cross the center line to pass a cyclist, bikers can ride on the shoulder, and bikes can use a taillight instead of a reflector–are now enacted into law. And for two, cycling is now officially the state exercise of Illinois.
