Many residents are unhappy about the high number of rentals in their town, citing concerns about noise, safety, and the lack of neighborhood character. Some leaders, on the other hand, fear hurting the booming tourism industry. In an effort to control the issue, South Lake Tahoe has instituted a controversial $1,000 fine for rental issues such as noise and parking infractions.
