Kayaker Survives Hood Canal Capsizing

A kayaker who capsized in the Hood Canal last week did everything right to ensure his safety, Coast Guard officers said: He was wearing a life jacket and wetsuit, knew how to haul himself out of the cold water, and promptly activated a radio beacon that guided rescuers to his location. The paddler managed to make it back on top of his kayak after the plunge, but was too exhausted to paddle back to shore.
