Kartchner Caverns State Park has been recognized for its dark skies by the International Dark-Sky Association. The Dark Sky Places Program was started in 2001, and Kartchner is only the second spot in Arizona—after Oracle State Park—to receive the designation. “Dark sky and daylight ecologies not only sustain each other, but are vital for supporting human health and culture,” says this Arizona State Parks release.
