Permit Now Required to Pick Huckleberries in Gifford Pinchot

The area between Mount Adams and Mount St. Helens is known as ground zero for Washington huckleberries, which peak from early August to the first frost. But with huckleberry habitat disappearing and human interest growing, the Forest Service in Gifford Pinchot wants to keep track of where the harvesting is happening—introducing permits this season. (Without a permit, you can still snack on trailside berries all you want. Just don’t bring any home with you.)
