House Bill Seeks to Simplify Permit Process on Public Lands

In an effort to make it easier for guides, outfitters, and groups who hold large events on public lands to get the necessary permits, California’s Rep. Doug LaMalfa introduced the Guide and Outfitters Act last January: The legislation would speed up the permitting process and sometimes waive fees. But the bill, which passed committee in June, also raises concerns from some groups that worry it would open the door for higher public use fees.
