Geologists: Glacier Peak One of Washington's Most Dangerous Volcanoes

The remote mountain is also one of the Cascades' least-monitored volcanoes.

Most people think of Mt. St. Helens when they think of active Cascade volcanoes, but the remote Glacier Peak poses even more risk, geologists say. The volcano has erupted at least six times since the last ice age, and another event of similar size would bury Darrington and Rockport and perhaps flood as far west as I-5. But because of its difficult access, Glacier Peak has only one seismometer monitoring its activity–fewer than any other Cascade volcano.
