‘Tis the season to increase your vigilance for everybody’s least favorite trail companion: the common tick. As University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Public Health Entomologist Elmer Gray reminded the Jackson Progress-Argus this week, the lone star tick is now actively looking for victims on trails and in tall grass statewide. Your best defenses: tucking hiking pants into your socks (style be damned), DEET, and thorough tick checks with tweezers in hand when you come inside.
