Their original plan was to climb Washington’s five highest volcanoes in a week—but work and family commitments forced Nick Burson, 31, and Marc McPhereson, 43, to shorten their trip into a five-day epic that included an initial 36-hour stretch with no sleep. The whole trip took clocked in at 5 days, 15 hours and 44 minutes from the Mount Adams Trailhead to the Mount Baker parking lot; the trip was unsupported and included 1,000 miles of driving.
