State Expands the Popular First-Time Camper Program for 2018
The project gives rookie campers a free, fully stocked campsite with a Camping Ambassador for one weekend at a New York State park.

After the success of last year’s pilot program, the Department of Environmental Conservation and New York State Parks will expand the First-Time Camper program this summer. The program gives a newbie camping family a free weekend at one of many sites across the state, a fully geared-up campsite, and a “Camping Ambassador” to show them the ropes. Families must apply through an online lottery for one of the 35 slots this summer.
