The emerald ash borer is a tree pest that has killed hundreds of millions of ash trees—and it was recently discovered in Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties, a few miles south of the Canadian border. The larvae feed in the cambium layer just below the bark, which prevents the tree from moving nutrients and water into its crown.
