All-time favorite local dayhike: The Middlesex Fells Reservation

Favorite local overnight hike: The Presidential Traverse in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. It’s a must-do for any East Coast peak bagger and a great way to get a feel for the local terrain.

Best prehike breakfast spot: White Mountain Bagel Co. in Lincoln, NH, has some top-notch bagels. More importantly, they have enough coffee to keep you awake on those early morning treks.

Best posthike dinner spot: Boston Burger Company has an incredible amount of choices. If you’re there between 4 and 5 PM, go for the 420 Special, a calorie-pack giant of a burger for just $4.20.

Favorite thing about hiking around Boston: There are some beautiful nature preserves around the city, and New Hampshire’s White Mountains are a short drive away.

Top tip for Boston hikers: Invest in good microspikes before you head out on a winter hike.
