“This multi-use path is what makes Chicago one of the greatest cities in the world,” says Jerry Heinrich, member of the Midewin Tallgrass Prairie Alliance, a local hiking and conservation group. The paved trail runs 18 miles along Lake Superior and has access to 15 swimming beaches. For a 12-mile tour with a splash, start from Lincoln Park Zoo and cruise to the sands of 63rd street beach, passing Solder Field on the way.
