CDOT Proposes Tunnel to Lighten I-70 Traffic Snarls

Colorado Department of Transportation officials have proposed boring a new three-lane tunnel on westbound I-70 to improve safety and lighten traffic congestion for mountain-bound travelers. But with a $10 billion project backlog already on the books, it’s unlikely this $550 million proposal would be funded in the near future. CDOT also proposed a short-term, $80 million express lane that could be built starting next year.
