Burlington, VT: Camels Hump via Burrows Trail

This 4.4-mile out-and-back tags Camels Hump, Vermont’s third highest peak, via the Burrows Trail. Hit up the trail in the second week of October for a brilliant display of fall colors. The 10 acres of tundra on top reveal the kaleidoscope of turning maples and oaks below.

The trailhead is located at the West end of the parking area. Start on the Burrows Trail and climb north.

Stop at the trailside bench for a quick break and to enjoy the surrounding trees and running streams. Ahead, the trail continues to climb.

Turn right for the final stretch to the summit.

Camels Hump (4,083 feet). The top of the hump is flat and wide and can easily be ascended. Look west for views of Lake Champlain, as well as the Adirondacks and New York State (on clear days). To the east, New Hampshire’s Mount Washington can be seen on a clear day. To the north is Mount Mansfield. Follow the same route back to the trailhead.
