In just 3.3 miles, the hike to Beehive Basin offers every hallmark of Big Sky Country: glacier-cut mountains, alpine lakes, wildflowers galore, and non-stop chances to spot megafauna. At the glacial cirque, cast a line for cutthroat, then, for Even Bigger Sky Country, scramble another half mile up 10,742-foot Beehive Peak, where the Taylor-Hilgard Range saws into the far horizon. After, drive only 20 minutes from the trailhead to find a bar worthy of après: Replenish lost calories at the Gallatin Riverhouse, a honky-tonk local’s den with ace barbecue and all-night country dancing.
