Carthew Summit has a view that stays with you. A sea of Glacier Park’s high peaks, a stone’s throw away over the border, show their flashiest north faces here. Hudson Glacier’s meltwater turns Lake Nooney, tucked under Mount Chapman’s imposing north wall, an impossible blue, while Glacier’s highest summit, the 10,146-foot Mount Cleveland, dominates the eastern horizon. Carthew Summit is the highpoint, but not the only attraction on the 12-mile route that runs from Cameron Lake to Waterton town. Waterfalls, bighorn sheep, alpine tarns, and vast high meadows, where beargrass sways in the summer breeze also line the trail.
