John Jaques, who works on Alaska’s North Slope, was hiking along the Arctic’s Sagavanirktok River last summer when he saw this red fox. “She was basking in the midnight sun near her den while her kits played close by,” Jaques says. “She was very content to nap even with a human present.” Jaques used a Canon Rebel XS with a Canon Ultrasonic 100-400mm IS lens.
