Cost: $165 members/$185 non-members
Details: Instruction in winter mountain travel to backcountry skiing and snowshoeing of all levels, including potential winter leaders. Between seven available classes, mostly every aspect of winter backcountry travel is covered. Weekend filled with instruction, field exercises, lectures, and discussions. Plus, plenty of great food to fuel you back up! If you’re not sure which class is right for you, just ask our Workshop Directors.
Choose from one of the following classes. 1) Introduction to Winter Mountain Travel (beginner and intermediate), which includes instruction in safety equipment, route finding, map and compass, off-trail navigation, weather, trip planning, nutrition, and emergencies in the mountain environment; 2) Backcountry Skiing (beginner, intermediate, and tele), 3) Advanced Winter Wilderness Travel, for those looking to hike high peaks and learn correct use of crampons; 4) Winter Backpacking (beginner and intermediate) includes instruction in backpacking equipment, campsite selection, route finding, map and compass, weather, trip planning, cooking, and emergencies. Plan to spend Friday/Saturday night outdoors, providing own backpacking equipment; 5) Leadership and Mountain Skills, for those who have good winter hiking and/or skiing skills, and wish to enhance them to run trips of their own. Exercises in planning, organizing, and conducting trips with emphasis on leadership techniques and group dynamics. Plus, basics of accident scene management, medical considerations, and off-trail navigation.
This course is also for those with potential and desire to become trip Leaders for New Hampshire Chapter. All classes are for any adult who wants to learn and have a great time! Begins at 7:30pm Friday, ending at 4:00pm on Sunday. $165/members, $185/non-members includes lodging, excellent meals, materials, and instruction.
