Cuomo Moves Forward with Controversial Adirondacks Rail-Trail Plan

The administration is pushing for new rules to bypass a court ruling that blocked new trail construction from Lake Placid to Tupper Lake.

The Cuomo administration has been pushing to build a new rail-trail path from Lake Placid to Tupper Lake since 2016, converting Adirondack Scenic Railway tracks to a 34-mile multiuse trail. But a court ruling blocked that change in 2017. Now, the administration and Adirondack Park Agency are working to change the park regulations to sidestep that challenge and move forward with the trail.
