Your Hikes
» Hulls Gulch Interpretive Trail, Boise Foothills “If you only have a day to explore the foothills, this should be your pick,” says group leader Leo Hennessy. The 6.1-mile hike—part of the 130-mile Ridge to Rivers trail system—climbs up a gulch rife with sagebrush, arrowleaf balsamroot, and views of downtown. At mile 2.1, turn left for a two-mile loop that crests the route’s highpoint and passes a cascading spring at the head of the gulch. Descend 500 feet in two miles on the return trip. Miles from city center 8; Trip ID754971
» Reynolds Creek Loop, Owyhee Uplands Trek through a steep canyon less than an hour from Boise on this 7.4-miler. “Reddish-orange cliffs hang more than five hundred feet above you for the length of the hike,” adds club member Steve Stuebner. From Wilson Creek Road, weave around rock spires, then turn southwest along Reynolds Creek. Wind through the gorge on the remains of an irrigation ditch built by gold miners. Then head north for the return trip. Miles from city center 44; Trip ID769836
