You’ll Never Guess What Animals Do On Trails While You’re Not Hiking

OK, fine, it’s mostly what you and I do: hike back and forth, admire the scenery, scratch their butts on trees. But the sheer number and variety of animals that used a popular hiking trail over four months in Waterton Lakes National Park (just north of Glacier in Alberta) is amazing: Lynx, wolverine, elk, bighorn sheep, mountain lions, and especially both flavors of bears. Parks Canada officials closed the area after some June flooding, turning it into an animal super highway. Watch:
Anyone who’s ever crashed through the trees knows extended bushwhacking turns into a drag fast. Using trails for efficiency is part of animal common sense, too. But if any more bears get on that trail, Parks Canada will have to put up a stoplight.
