It’s hard to believe that just a stone’s throw from Los Angeles’ night-blotting glare lies Joshua Tree National Park, home to some of the country’s best and brightest night skies. Filmmaker Gavin Heffernan has journeyed to Joshua Tree several times to capture ridiculously beautiful timelapses – but the star trails, storm fronts, and cascading meteorites of this nighttime edition is our favorite:
Joshua Tree offers world-class desert backpacking and blazing climbing, but next time I go, I think I’ll just set up a lawn chair at sunset and wait for the real fireworks.
