Sleeping bags may keep you warm and alive, but you know what they can’t do? They don’t allow you to exit the tent for some sweet fireside breakdancing. No longer: Chilean outdoor apparel company Lippi plans to release the Selk’bag, which is sort of a cross between an astronaut suit and a brightly colored Yeti costume.
In addition to full limb articulation and hand zippers, the Selk’bag offers the traditional protection of a sleeping bag: The synthetic-fill body bags will come in a $149 model rated at 32 degrees, and a $229 model rated at 14 degrees.
Associate Editor (and noted sleeping bag destroyer) Shannon Davis briefly tried on the Lippi bag at OR and described it as “a little bit like wearing a Halloween costume. It reminded me of the time my mom made me a full-body Gizmo suit. I won third place in my town’s Halloween costume contest that year.”
We’ve got a few Lippi Selk’bags on order to the BACKPACKER dungeons. As soon as we get our hands on them, we’ll let you know how they fare in the wilderness. But probably not until after we completely dominate at the next sleeping bag race.
