Send Trips to Facebook
Our newest widget lets you automatically share adventures with your Facebook friends.
Heading out the door? Read this article on the new Outside+ app available now on iOS devices for members! Download the app.

If you’re like pretty much everyone else on the planet (us included), your social calendar probably includes frequent stops at Facebook. That means you’ll be excited about our new trip widget that instantly tells your friends about your trip reports posted on Backpacker.com.
This new tool links your Backpacker.com and Facebook accounts and sends a mini-newsfeed to your Facebook profile whenever you post a new trip report, photos, or video on our site. The map team has been using this new application for a few weeks now and we find it’s a great way to keep our friends and regional map contributors informed about recent adventures.
It only takes a few minutes to set-up. Here’s how:
- * Login to Backpacker.com
* Once you’re logged in, look under the Trip Reports tab and scroll down to the Facebook link. This will take you to a page run by our technology partner Trimble Outdoors.
Select the “Go To Application” button, then Allow Access.
This process will link your accounts. If you use a different email address for your Facebook and Backpacker.com accounts, you may have to enter your Backpacker username and password to link up your accounts. The process finishes with a few questions about how you want to post trips.
Your accounts are now linked. You can find out about more advance settings under the Tips and Tricks tab.
POST A TRIP
When you’re ready, test it out. Go to our Post A Trip page, and begin a trip report by picking from one of the four options. Add notes, photos, whatever you want on your trip report. Check the “share” box on the Trip Information page and then hit Save and Preview (note: only shared trips will post on Facebook; private trips remain private.) Once the trip goes live on our site, it will be posted into your Facebook newsfeed. My recent trip report on Blood Mountain was posted in my status like this:
We hope you enjoy the new tool!
