Senator Misses DNC Because of Hiking Injury

Here in Colorado, the Democratic National Convention is in full swing. For you folks at home, that means lengthy policy speeches, red-white-and-blue highlight reels, and the televised coronation of one of the most exciting Democratic presidential candidates in history.
I live right in the middle of DNC Ground Zero in Denver, so for me it means stupid amounts of gridlocked traffic, protesters shouting through bullhorns at midnight, and waiting in line behind Howard Dean for Jello shots at the Giggling Grizzly. Yay America!
One prominent Democrat not making an appearance this year will be California senator Dianne Feinstein: While hiking near Lake Tahoe with U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif., Feinstein sustained a broken ankle and will remain in California recuperating under doctor’s orders. The 75-year-old politician had these words to pass along:
“I was very much looking forward to chairing the California Delegation, and I offer my best wishes to California’s delegates in this vital nomination process,” Feinstein said.
No hiker likes to lose trail time from an injury, so we wish her a speedy recovery. But if you ask me, I think the senior Senator from California simply considered her options and made a sound decision. “Should I 1) wade through crowds of simpering politicians, Obama bobbleheads, and protesting conspiracy theorists for several days, or 2) plant my butt on an Adirondack chair, down some meds, grab a cocktail, and watch the sun set over Tahoe while nursing a wee ‘accidental’ ankle injury?”
