Recall: SPOT Satellite Messenger

SPOT will replace newer versions of their satellite messenger

Spot has issued a voluntary recall for new models of their SPOT Satellite GPS Messengers issued after Oct. 1, 2009.

According to Spot, after testing they found some new SPOT devices “might not meet battery and messaging operating specifications.” You can get full details at

Replacement units should be available by early 2010, meaning we won’t have to wait long for backcountry backup.
