Not all mountaineering tents have to weigh 10 pounds: Witness this minimalist winter shelter from Brooks Range Mountaineering. It’s made of ultralight and crazy-strong sail cloth and has no poles. Two trekking poles and an avalanche probe provide the frame, along with a few guy-out points to this 1 lb. 6oz. tent. The “metalized” canopy is intended to minimize heat loss in cold temps while also blocking the alpine sun.
