OR: Cool New Gear–Smith Helmet and Goggles Integration Kit

Smith has figured out the perfect way to get those goggles on your kids--and keep them there.

Every once in a while, you see something at Outdoor Retailer that so intuitively smart, in the back of your head, you can’t believe someone didn’t already invent it. With Smith’s new kids Integration Kit, ironically, both are true.

The Integration kit throws together a Cosmos helmet and Galaxy goggle with the goggle attached directly to the helmet via a magnetic quickstep system Smith is calling a Tractor Beam. Hold one magnetic end as far away from the other as far as a half inch and instant goggle attachment. With swiveling outriggers attached to both the front goggle strap and the strap attached to the magnetic base that secures to the helmet, the system easily repositions and the strap stays secure but pops off with minimal effort–shouldn’t be a problem with a mitted hand.

Where have we seen this before? The idea came from work Smith has done for the military where soldiers quickly need to remove goggles and swivel other optical tools to their place.

Unfortunately, right now the system is only available for kids at $80 for the whole system. No word yet on when it’ll be available for adults but we’ll snatch one up and test it as soon as we can. Until then, should be a good way to keep this goggles on your kids’ noggins.
