Word has it that this thing called global warming will cause sea level to rise as much as three feet in the next century .

Which, unless you’ve been living news-free in a west Texas bat cave, you know all about. But don’t go buying a Ski Doo for your morning commute just yet. A new study published in Science  details the results of a 10-year Australian study that shows, sure, our seas may rise in the near future, but ocean levels will actually be dropping as much as 390 feet as ocean basins expand—over the next 80-billion years.

That may be good news for Paris Hilton (who allegedly wants to be cryogenically frozen) and Keith Richards (who allegedly is death proof). But that’s a long time to wait for the rest of us backpackers. —Shannon Davis
