VOGUE tries a first ascent in fur and high heels

Plenty of climbers made notable first ascents this year, but did they do it in “chubby furs and lethal sky high platforms?” I think not. Meanwhile, models Lily Donaldson, Coco Rocha, Caroline Trentini, and Anna Jagodzinska managed this feat on an unnamed crag, and if my eyes don’t deceive me, they did it sans rope. Gentlemen, the bar has been raised.
Of course, the climb is fake, and the pictures are in VOGUE instead of The Alpinist. Fashion photographer Steven Meisel chose a rock-climbing theme to model the latest in fur, handbags and high heels, and while his choice might seem bewildering, he managed to accurately show the models stretching, demonstrating the French step technique, and even performing crevasse rescue.
OK, not really.
But as models.com says, “modeling is an extreme sport,” and “the girls make mountaineering look stylish.”
Hey! Since when was this not considered stylish?
