A 58-year-old man was rescued Tuesday after spending three days with no food or water and enduring triple-digit temperatures in the Arizona wilderness.

The Arizona Republic reports that the man was alone on a planned 10 day hiking trip. He texted his wife on Monday, informing her that he had no food or water. His wife initiated the search when she stopped receiving messages.

The man was found partway up a canyon on the Arizona Trail, apparently in search of water. When the rescue team found him, he was laying on the ground with his arm raised, too weak to stand or sit up. He was flown by helicopter to a command post before being taken to the hospital by an ambulance, where he was released on Wednesday.
