Hike of the Day: California's Lost Coast

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced last week that much of the California coastline could be swallowed by rising sea tides (as much as five feet by the end of the century). Agree or not, even a smaller rise of the Pacific Ocean could make the Lost Coast Trail no longer accessible to backpackers. Much of the trail is pinched between bluffs and ocean and in several spots hikers need to time their hike with the tides. So plan your trip to hike this classic coastline destination next season before it’s–um–lost forever.
